Black Ginger in Warsash serving again after car hits shopfront

A car struck the front of Black Ginger Indian Kitchen on Shore Road in Warsash on Sunday evening, leaving the village restaurant with a boarded shopfront and a dining room that had to be cleared before service could resume.

The kitchen was taking bookings again by Monday lunchtime. In a Facebook post that afternoon the restaurant said it was “now open again to booking dine-in reservations” and thanked customers for their patience. Staff had already put the interior back in order. The glass and frame facing the street remain boarded.

Black Ginger sits at 23 Shore Road, a short walk from the Hamble ferry hard and the village shops. The same premises traded for more than thirty years as Chon Chola before the name changed in 2024, and diners still treat the site as the village Indian rather than a new arrival. Tables and takeaway both run from 5pm, which is why a Sunday evening collision lands on a working service rather than a closed shutter.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary has not published an account of the collision. Early talk that the car was driven at the building on purpose has not stood up. Witnesses say the driver selected reverse instead of forward and hit the shopfront as a result. No arrest or charge has been reported.

The door itself was not damaged, only the window, so diners can come and go as usual while the boarded glass waits to be replaced. Bookings continue on 01489 573110 and at blackgingerindian.co.uk. The front will look rough until that work is done, and the hope is that regulars take this in their stride and keep supporting the business.
